What we study in our universities is outdated and what we are applying in our business is also. After taking master’s degree in marketing we love doing jobs of sales and considered ourselves as a marketer. Unfortunately, we are mixing two different concepts. As a marketing student one day I decided to read something new which is out of my course line. So, I searched for books related to marketing and I came up with a book named “New Rules of Marketing and PR” by David Meerman Scott. That book changed my perspective and shift my attention from old rules of marketing towards the new rules.
As I start blogging after reading his book. Therefore here is a special thanks to David Meerman Scott for changing my perspective. If you are also a marketing student or from marketing profession or running your own business do read his book.

Change In Marketing Landscape:

Since the advancement of technology and the advent of social media now marketing practices has been changed. People’s attention is diverting from television towards social media platforms and it also changes the way how consumers and brands engage with each other. In Pakistan, there are 47.5 million internet users out of which 44.6 million use internet on mobile phones. Moreover, active social media users are 35 million but still social media marketing and its implementation is very little because people don’t know well about these platforms.

The widely used social media platforms in Pakistan includes Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn. Each platform has a specific purpose and uniqueness. Now people can contact any brand or company directly. It involves two-way communication which was missed in ads we see on television. Now consumers can connect directly with brands through social media by seeing their ads. Despite this fact, many businesses in Pakistan don’t appear on social media platforms. Running ads related to your business on digital platforms is also cheaper and effective as compared to other old platforms which we will discuss later. Let’s have a look at social media platforms and how we can use it for our benefit.  

Facebook:

Facebook is a widely used platform with almost 2.38 billion monthly active users. This platform overcomes the geographical barriers and now we can contact anyone from anywhere in the world in just one click. According to statistics by Napoleon Cat there are almost 31.4 Million users of Facebook in Pakistan and these numbers are increasing with great proportion.
Businesses can take advantage of this platform by creating their company pages and groups and engage their audience with informative posts and discussions.

Instagram:

Instagram is a photo sharing platform which is now getting popularity in Pakistan, especially among teenagers. According to statistics there are 1 billion+ monthly active users of Instagram.  In Pakistan there are 5.1 million people who are using Instagram out of which 65.2% are males and 34.8% are females. Moreover, people of age 18 to 24 are the largest users group.
If you are a business owner, you can share your products or employee’s pictures on this platform or may be a one-minute video about manufacturing process of your product.

Snapchat:

Snapchat gets its popularity with unique feature of sharing a short lived content which disappears after a certain time period. You can share your content in the form of stories that lasts for 24 hours. You can also send messages which automatically disappears as soon as a person read your message. This platform is getting popularity specially among teenagers.
You can share your daily business stories to audience by using this App.

YouTube:

YouTube is mainly used for watching and sharing video content, it’s like a new TV platform where different users have their channels and people love watching their content.
If you are running a business and not putting any content and educating your consumers with valuable content and product reviews, you are missing an opportunity.

Twitter:

Twitter is a micro-blogging platform where people can share their thoughts in a limited number of words and this quality bring uniqueness in it. There are almost 330 million monthly active users of twitter around the world. In Pakistan there are 3.5 million active users of twitter.
You can use twitter for sharing any update regarding your business or you can take suggestions from people regarding your product.

LinkedIn:

LinkedIn is a professional platform through which people can make peer-to-peer connection with professional people of their respective field. With the passage of time now people of Pakistan are understanding the importance of building connections with professional people.
Your business must have a business profile where you can post about new vacancies and updates about your company.
